The Scotch Malt Whisky Society teams up with Inveralmond Brewery to pair rare whiskies with craft beers
To celebrate Whisky Month and the current Scottish craft beer revolution, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has teamed up with Inveralmond Brewery for a special evening of ‘hauf n hauf’ beer and whisky tastings.
A ‘hauf ‘n’ hauf’ is a traditional Scottish serve of a small whisky with a half pint of beer as a chaser. As part of its month-long ‘Clans & Drams’ events, which are running throughout the whole Whisky Month in May, the Society is reviving this long-standing tradition with the event at its Edinburgh venue; 28 Queen Street on Friday 23rd May. The Society’s venues in Leith, Edinburgh and London, typically open exclusively to its members, will be open to non-members throughout its Clans & Drams activities in May. Visitors will discover the widest range of single cask whiskies, playfully linked with Scottish Clans.
At each event, a Society Ambassador and a brewer from Inveralmond Brewery will pair three Scottish craft beers with three single cask Society whiskies. Inveralmond Brewery will showcase its official Homecoming Scotland beer, plus Ossian, their best-selling Golden Ale, and Sunburst Bohemian Pilsner, the first release in its new Inspiration Series. Sunburst, the only authentic Czech pilsner brewed in Scotland, is made from soft Perthshire waters, Saaz and Hallertau Hersbrucker hops and yeast sourced from one of the oldest brewing sites in Prague.
Fergus Clark, Managing Director of the Inveralmond Brewery, said: “This tasting are all about exploring the range of flavours in our beers and the Society’s whiskies, as well ascelebrating two of Scotland’s finest products – craft beer and malt whisky. It feels extra special as we are releasing our new Homecoming beer whilst at the same time rejuvenating the age-old Scottish tradition of the ‘hauf ‘n’ hauf’.”
Guests will be served a hearty supper of Crombies beer and whisky sausages along with a dollop of delicious mash as the perfect accompaniment to their ‘hauf ‘n’ hauf’.
Mark Van Der Vijver, the Society’s UK Sales Manager, said: “As producers of the official beer for Homecoming Scotland, Inveralmond Brewery is the perfect partner to have on board for our ‘Hauf ‘n’ Hauf’ event, which will showcase Scotland’s incredible passion for craft beers and rare whisky. Our Clans and Drams Festival is all about experiencing a unique flavour adventure and discovering one’s own preferences through the remarkable variety of the Society’s rare whiskies.”
