Our/London Vodka Launches Our/Infusions Range

Our Infusions range
Our/Vodka is continuing its mission to shake up the vodka industry with the launch of four DIY Our/Infusion kits.

The kits allow anyone to play bartender and transform their bottle of Our/Vodka into a bespoke serve, by using a botanical infusion bag.

To mark the launch, the kits will feature in an exclusive Our/Infusions window installation at The Conran Shop Marylebone, coinciding with the launch of London Design Festival on 16 September.

London based set designers Isabel + Helen and Hackney resident photographer William Bunce will bring each infusion to life. Delving into the smells and textures of each infusion blend, the sculptures will show what a glass bottle of clear liquid can really look like.

The four Our/Infusions kits have been created using ingredients sourced from all over the world. They include:

Our/Oak Infusion – An oak flavoured botanical blend with a taste of warm toasted oak, sweet vanilla and a hint of smoke. 8-15 hours infusion time.

Our/Juniper Infusion – A juniper flavoured botanical blend. 8-15 hours infusion time.

Our/Citrus Infusion – A citrus flavoured botanical blend with notes of lemon and grapefruit. 10 minutes infusion time.

Our/Tea Infusion – Classic Earl, a refreshing bergamot flavoured tea blend from Paper & Tea with hint of leather and caramel. 10 minutes infusion time.

Kalle Söderquist, co-founder & creative director of Our/Vodka says: “Within the bartender community we’ve seen endless creativity the last couple of years. Everyone adds their own personal touch to their cocktail ingredients.

“Combined with an urban DIY trend when it comes to everything food and drink, we believe that the range of Our/Infusion kits are changing the spirits industry by helping the end consumer to create something entirely new from a bottle of Our/Vodka.”

Our/Vodka has built a family of urban distilleries, and was the first to bring a small vodka bottle with a crown cap to the market. The Our/Infusions range has an RRP of £24 and will be available from October at selected retailers.

Hard Rock Cafe Want To Spritz Up Your Summer!

tumblr_ouvof53Yde1ttt0l6o1_540
Hard Rock Cafe have brought out their latest cocktail creations for the Summer season, focusing on the ever-popular Spritz, twisting them with familiar names such as Bombay Sapphire, Jack Daniel’s, Grey Goose and Chambord.

Kick-start with my personal favourite of the ‘Jack and Diane’ that see’s Jack Daniel’s Old No.7 combined with Cointreau, fresh lemon juice, sugar syrup and topped with lemonade for a bold hit of whiskey and orange. A close second for me is the ‘Chambord Supernova’ that see’s Chambord blended with St Germaine elderflower and topped with Prosecco, soda and a lemon twist. Rich, refreshing and offers a long finish!

A fantastic Grey Goose offering in ‘Good Limes, Bad Limes’ is available, showing the flavours of St Germaine elderflower, fresh limes, Prosecco and soda, whilst the ‘Thyme Warp’ offers a highlight of the Bombay Sapphire experience with fresh lemon juice and tonic, with a sprig of thyme to bring out the fresh aromas.

tumblr_ouvofhctu01ttt0l6o1_540
The two other Bombay Sapphire creations include ‘Gin Ginie’ that see’s the bolder profiles of Chambord mixed with the British gin and bitter lemon, topped with a sprig of mint, whilst the ‘My Gineration’ focuses on the gin with orange juice, tonic and plenty of orange peel for garnish.

Six refreshing serves, priced between £9.45 and £9.95, served up, if you wish, within a Hard Rock souvenir mason jar (for £11.80) whilst rocking out in the sunshine (or what’s left of it) on their terrace. And if you’ve ever read my previous features on Hard Rock Cafe’s food offerings, you’ll know you can make an afternoon of it!

Jack & Diane with a Guinness Bacon Cheeseburger for me. I’ll see you at the bar.

Curio

Curio
It’s rare to come across a local gin that makes enough noise to be heard on the other side of the country, but it seems to be the case with Cornwall, led the way by Southwestern Distillers, and now continued by Curio Spirits Company. Heading to the North of England can be a daunting task for any brand who lack, for example, the personnel to consistently appear at the numerous gin festivals that pop up, who themselves are looking further afield to stand out with their brand offerings. It’s down to the power of the liquid then, the image of the brand, and the consistent approach to their values that can really win a crowd over.

With this, lets see what the hype about Curio is all about.

Originating from Mullion in West Cornwall, William and Rubina Tyler-Street have set out to train and work with two master distillers since 2012 to perfect what they believe embodies Cornwall and the natural botanicals that surround them, including the likes of rock samphire and cardamom, creating an air of wonder and curiosity.

December 2014 saw the release of Curio after the investment of two small stills, a rotary evaporator and plenty of experiments. The Rock Samphire gin expression was first to hit the shelves, followed by their Peruvian Cocoa Nib vodka, and lately their Cardamom vodka, all using natural spring water from the Cornish Spring Water Company.

My first taste of Curio see’s the Peruvian Cocoa Nib, a triple distilled vodka that is gently infused with Peruvian Cocoa Nibs and produced in small batches. But how does it fare? Well below, I give to you my tasting notes;

Curio Peruvian Cocoa Nib – 40%

Soft, subtle fresh cocoa with blends of vanilla and fudge on the nose. Slight roasted cocoa nib once upon the palate, with notes of creamy toffee, sweet fudge and a lasting flavour of warm cream.

Although recommended to be served neat, I did come across this;

Curio Chocolate Orange Martini
Curio Chocolate Orange Martini

Glass –

Martini

Ingredients –

25 ml Curio Cocoa Nib Vodka
25 ml Cointreau
2 dashes Fee Brothers Chocolate bitters
2 dashes Fee Brothers Orange bitters

Method –

Pour all ingredients into mixing glass with ice cubes. Stir well. Strain in chilled martini cocktail glass. Squeeze oil from orange peel onto the drink.

An impressive flavoured vodka, and it’s grabbed my curiosity to experience the rest of the range. Start your collection today for the drinks cabinet as they’re already looking to expand with plans for a larger distillery in Mullion on the Lizard Peninsular.

GREY GOOSE® Hosts Trans-Atlantic Celebration to Honour Legendary British Bartender, Dick Bradsell

dick bradsellGrey Goose, the world’s best tasting vodka, will pay tribute to the man who many believe invented the Espresso Martini cocktail at Tales of the Cocktail festival by live-streaming events in New Orleans and London simultaneously

GREY GOOSE, the world’s best tasting vodka, will host a trans-Atlantic celebration of the life of legendary bartender, Dick Bradsell, with Swift bar in Soho, London and specially curated pop-up bar, Le Café de Nuit in New Orleans. Taking place on Thursday 20 July during Tales of the Cocktail, the world’s premier cocktail festival, the celebrations will focus on the Espresso Martini cocktail, a now worldwide classic which Bradsell reportedly invented, when a supermodel asked him to make her a cocktail

Dick Bradsell, the man who was nicknamed ‘The King of Cocktails’, sadly passed away last year. To celebrate his legacy, GREY GOOSE is inviting cocktail enthusiasts from both sides of the pond to raise an Espresso Martini cocktail to the man and join in the parties which will be live-streamed between the bars at 1pm-3pm in New Orleans and 7pm-9pm in London.

At Swift, the statement cocktail bar from the team behind award-winning Nightjar and Oriole, Bradsell’s daughter, Bea, will host the evening with all funds from the sales of the Espresso Martini cocktail going to The Benevolent, the drinks industry charity.

Joe McCanta, GREY GOOSE Global Brand Ambassador, said: “Dick Bradsell was an industry icon, who changed and revived the London cocktail scene; setting a new standard which all ambitious bartenders strive for. This celebration is simply a way for GREY GOOSE to remember the man behind the Espresso Martini cocktail, which has become one of the most iconic cocktails to date.”

BrewDog’s Spirits Brand LoneWolf Launches With Category Challenging Design By B&B studio

Lone Wolf
Maverick brewer BrewDog has unveiled its spirits brand LoneWolf, with design by B&B studio.

Pared back and minimalist, the design flies in the face of convention and reflects the brand’s aim to operate as an outsider within the sprits category. A simple stripped-back label features across the gin and vodka bottles in defiance of category codes with the wolf’s head identity its sole adornment.

Code breaker

B&B studio worked to communicate LoneWolf’s rebellious approach to the spirits category in the design, as the brand seeks to challenge perceptions of what gin and vodka can be.
The production process at LoneWolf takes place on one site, from grain to bottle, as opposed to spirit and botanicals being bought in, then mixed together. Every part of the brand is created from scratch -including the bespoke bottle and a specially formulated silicone band.

LoneWolf seeks to hero the spirit before the brand, in a stance that goes against the grain in the craft industry. This anti-marketing approach, a clear strategy formed for the design, is reflective of both product purity and the brand’s deliberately defiant stance. Shaun Bowen, Creative Partner at B&B studio, says: “LoneWolf goes against the pack and ignores the codes of the category, allowing us to tell their brand story in an eye catching and compelling way.”

Revolutionary spirit

The unassuming label, which is held onto the bottle with a silicone band, features a modest typewriter font, imperfect and intimate, inspired by the notes made by a distiller in the creation of spirits. It also features the brand’s LoneWolf identity, a wolf distilled down to its purest geometric elements.

The back of the bottle sports embossed LoneWolf type. And twelve stories about LoneWolf, on themes such as the taste and process, written by the brand, appear on the inside of the label.

Bowen adds: “The packaging has a raw simplicity to reflect the purity of what LoneWolf is doing in the spirits sector. It feels legitimate and authentic, with a scientific quality to it. “Each category has its own design codes but this just turns that all on its head. The vodka and gin look the same – only LoneWolf could do something as revolutionary as this.”

Swedish Brand Virtuous Vodka Launches To The UK On-Trade

VIRTUOUSVODKA_RASPBERRY_Glamour_LOW RES
Virtuous Vodka, a high-quality Swedish vodka made from 100% organic, natural ingredients will launch to the UK on-trade with a portfolio of four flavours: Blond, Bitter Lemon, Raspberry and Ginger. Made using a base spirit of Swedish rye, and with no added sugars or aromas, Virtuous Vodka prides itself on only using the best ingredients and methods to produce flavours that are natural and genuine. The result is a grown-up and authentic take on the flavoured vodka category, ideal for mixing in long drinks and cocktails.

Available in 700ml bottles Virtuous Vodka is column-distilled once and unfiltered to render a smooth and well balanced flavour. The resulting Virtuous Vodka Blond has a sweet, peppery scent reminiscent of fresh baked bread and light notes of fruit. Pure and smooth on the palate, there is a fresh, sweet bitterness and touch of spice, with a short and delicate aftertaste.

To create the flavoured varieties only natural, organic ingredients are used. They are added during a maceration process before the vodka is gently filtered, the resulting flavoured vodkas stay true to the flavour profile of the original ingredients, providing a departure from synthetically flavoured spirits:

Virtuous Vodka Raspberry
Flavoured with organic raspberries A rich scent of aged raspberries leads to a striking and ripe taste, whilst a certain acidity and sweetness from the fruit balances the vodka. Matures with time to develop a more complex flavour, with less acidity.

Virtuous Vodka Bitter Lemon
Flavoured with organic lemon peel Intense aroma with a sharp and sweet fragrance, the complex taste of lemon-zest elevates the vodka. The juxtaposing flavours of sweetness from the zest and bitterness from the peel results in a modern lemon vodka reminiscent of bitter marmalade.

Virtuous Vodka Ginger
Flavoured with organic ginger A full and aromatic scent of fresh ginger is complimented by a strong and spicy flavour that carries a certain amount of heat.

Like any natural flavour, Virtuous Vodka’s flavoured varieties have an indefinite shelf life, a testament to the authenticity and realness of its ingredients and something founder Claes Stenmark sees as a strength, not a flaw. On the launch he comments, “As a company we believe in three things: true flavours, sustainable business and braveness, and that’s how we produce our vodkas. We’re excited to be launching in the UK at a time when venues and customers alike are looking for something authentic and honest, something we always strive to be. We only say yes to the real deal and no to stuff created in laboratories. Most importantly our vodka is made to taste, not to last.”

With its natural flavourings, commitment to only using organic ingredients, and fresh approach Virtuous Vodka is an exciting addition to the vodka category.
