Chicago’s Premier Distillery to Distribute in the United Kingdom with Emporia Brands

500ml Gin White

KOVAL, one of America’s premiere craft distilleries, will expand distribution to the United Kingdom with international luxury spirits importer and exporter Emporia Brands.

Founded in 2008 as Chicago’s first distillery since the mid-1800s, KOVAL’s innovative distilling technologies and cutting-edge design practices have led them to become an award-winning, internationally renowned craft spirits manufacturer. Founders Robert and Sonat Birnecker chose to leave their academic careers to bring the distilling traditions of Robert’s Austrian family to America. In making this decision, they vowed to make spirits from scratch and to change the way people understand whiskey by creating a new, signature style—using only the “heart cut” of the distillate—affording a brighter, cleaner take on whiskey.

“We’re thrilled to be expanding our international distribution efforts to the United Kingdom and look forward to working with Emporia’s innovative team,” said Robert Birnecker.

Emporia Brands is taking on a range of KOVAL’s unique whiskeys, including KOVAL Bourbon, Rye, and Millet. Each a rare expression, KOVAL Bourbon is a naturally gluten-free spirit comprised of 51% corn and 49% millet bottled at 47% ABV, while KOVAL Rye (2013’s Best International Whisky by InterWhisky) and Millet are single grain whiskeys distilled with 100% rye and 100% millet from the Midwest, bottled at 40% ABV. All whiskeys are certified kosher, single barrel expressions aged up to 4 years in new American Oak barrels.

Emporia Brands will also take on KOVAL Dry Gin, one of 2015’s most highly awarded gins in the categories of both spirit and package design. A Double Gold recipient from the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, KOVAL Dry Gin is a balanced, crisp gin with notes of citrus, pepper, and a round floral body. In the coming months, Emporia Brands plans to add KOVAL Four Grain whiskey to their portfolio as well.

KOVAL CEO and Master Distiller Robert Birnecker will travel to the UK this April to launch a series of master classes in London, Manchester, and Edinburgh. As the co-founder of Kothe Distilling Technologies, Robert has become one of America’s top distilling experts and internationally renowned consultants, educating over 2,500 aspiring distillers in the last six years alone.

“Emporia Brands is delighted to announce our partnership with a true craft champion, KOVAL. Robert and Sonat’s huge passion is reflected in our team, and we look forward to hosting Robert’s nationwide master classes throughout April,” said Jack Rackham, Commercial Director of Emporia Brands.

KOVAL will be available from retailers across the United Kingdom, including Harvey Nichols, Masters of Malt, The Whisky Exchange, Royal Mile Whiskies, and online at thedrinkshop.com.

Emporia Brands Appoint New Staritsky & Levitsky UK Brand Ambassador

Bottles

Emporia Brands are proud to announce that Staritsky & Levitsky, the first super-premium vodka produced and distilled in the birthplace of grain vodka, Ukraine, has appointed Dainius Kazlauskas as its UK Brand Ambassador. Working with Emporia Brands, the vodka brands UK distributor, Dainius will be touring the UK over the coming months, visiting Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and London amongst others, and showing off a variety of unique serves of the Ukraine expressions including Staritsky & Levitsky Reserve, Private Cellar and Distil No.9.

The Lithuanian has been within the UK bar scene since 2004, and has worked at some of London’s best including National Café, Casino at the Empire, Cinnamon Soho, Bison Bar at Home House and Pachamama Bar and Grill Peruvian Restaurant in Marylebone.

Dainius Pic

Staritsky & Levitsky was founded by a group of vodka enthusiasts, passionate about reviving the heritage and traditions of authentic, small batch vodka distillation in the historic birthplace of the vodka production. After years of field trips, tastings and recipe research in the geographic “vodka belt” of Europe, they found the perfect place for their venture in the city of Lviv, in Ukraine, close to the Polish border and the protected Carpathian mountains with their crystal clear water wells, and with access to Ukraine’s black soil, which produces unique grains for distillation.

They craft all their spirits from single grain Ukrainian wheat, which is distilled five times in traditional copper stills before being filtered twice through charcoal and twice through rhinestone. The resulting vodka rests for an extensive time to gain its delicate balance and maturity.

Staritsky & Levitsky is already being enjoyed at some of London’s premium venues including Novikov and Mahiki, as well as supporting Cocktails in the City and on the shelf at Master of Malt, The Drink Shop, Gerry’s and Hedonism Wines.

Ron Prohibido – ‘the forbidden rum’ – is a unique premium Latino rum from Mexico. Made in a traditional 12 year solera with a unique combination of column still rums, Ron Prohibido was, in the 17th century, shipped in used sweet wine barrels to Spain where the distinctive sweet and bitter taste it acquired during the voyage was much appreciated…so much so that local producers in Spain persuaded King Felipe V to ban it – hence “prohibido”, the forbidden rum. Now, over 300 years later, this delicious rum is available in the UK for the first time.

Try their simple ‘Prohibido’:

Glass: Mug

Ingredients:

60 ml Ron Prohibido
2 tsp caster sugar
½ cup hot fresh coffee
1 cinnamon stick
Orange zest

Walsh Whiskey Distillery & Community of Royal Oak County Carlow Welcome Arrival of Giant Whiskey Pots

Walsh Whiskey Distillery at Royal Oak in County Carlow (1)

Copper Pot & Column Stills to Distil Up to 8 Million Bottles of Whiskey Annually

Royal Oak, Carlow – 30 September 2015: What is set to be one of the largest independent whiskey distilleries in the country, the Walsh Whiskey Distillery at Royal Oak in County Carlow, took a big step closer to being commissioned next January with the arrival, today, of almost 30 tonnes of copper and steel whiskey distilling equipment. The precious cargo made its first and last ever journey all of 1,046 kilometres (650 miles) by road and sea from the north-west of Scotland. The crown jewels in the shipment are the three giant copper pot stills and column stills that will be the prime engines in the distillation of up to 8 million bottles of premium, craft, Irish whiskey annually.

There to greet the convoy as it arrived at the 18th century estate were Bernard and Rosemary Walsh, (the founders of Walsh Whiskey) and their family, company employees and the community of the small village of Royal Oak which has been very supportive of the €25 million project since it was announced in 2013. The whiskey distillery is the first to be developed in Carlow and the south-east in 100 and 200 years respectively.

Weighing between four and five tonnes each and scaling up to 6.5 metres in height, the largest of the pot stills will have a capacity of 15,000 litres. Both of whiskey’s main ingredients, water and barley, will be in plentiful local supply from the surrounding barley-growing farms and the Barrow Valley Aquifer, a massive natural underground reservoir containing 200 million cubic metres of water.

The distillery will produce Walsh Whiskey’s critically acclaimed, award winning, ultra-premium Irish whiskey brands – The Irishman and Writerṣ Tears. The distillery will be unique as the only distillery in Ireland to produce all three types of Irish whiskey in one still house, namely – pot, malt and grain.
